Philadelphia, PA – May 20, 2020 – Thousands of vulnerable Philadelphians will benefit from a donation of 300,000 Tru Earth laundry strips to the community’s Share Food program on Wednesday.
The donation, inspired by the growing need during the COVID-19 crisis and valued at $150,000 is part of Tru Earth’s commitment to continually give back to those who need assistance.
The Share Food Program is a non-profit organization serving a regional network of community organizations engaged in food distribution, education, and advocacy. Each day, impoverished Philadelphia families struggle to put food on the table, and the need continues to rise. Tru Earth leaders chose Philadelphia for the donation after learning that the city has a “deep poverty” rate (families living at half the poverty rate), of twice the national average. Share Food serves the region’s most vulnerable residents: 700,000 low-income individuals each month – of whom 36% are children and 12% elderly. Today’s donation will provide clean clothes for a month to more than15,000 families.
Start Up Company, Tru Earth announced their goal to donate laundry detergent to those in need back in April. They have been matching customer purchases for donations since March 16, 2020. This donation brings the company’s donated total so far to 700,000 loads ($372,000 in retail value) worth of laundry detergent strips.
“Our core value at Tru Earth is that consistent small action can lead to big change in the world. We see this not as a choice but as our commitment to help make the world a better place” said Brad Liski, Co-Founder of Tru Earth. “We are a Start Up Company but we are inspired by our team, our customers and our local, national and international organizations that are addressing the greatest need and caring for the most vulnerable among us.”
